Aptia is a global provider of pension, employee health, and benefits administration services, with operations across the UK, US, Portugal, and India. Formed following Bain Capital Insurance’s acquisition of Mercer’s US health and benefits administration and UK pension administration businesses, Aptia supports organizations in managing critical employee benefit programs at scale
Following Aptia’s carve-out from Marsh McLennan, they needed a trusted technology partner to build a fully independent, scalable IT estate within fixed regulatory, budget, and TSA exit deadlines, without disrupting live business operations. Stringent security and compliance requirements ruled out a conventional lift-and-shift approach, requiring the team to rebuild 280 applications from source code, re-engineer more than 150 integrations and associated pipelines, cleanse and validate over 2,500 databases and 45 million documents, and transition more than 4,500 users across the UK, US, India, and Portugal. Expanding scope, complex legacy dependencies, and a fixed-price delivery model added further pressure, leaving no room for missed deadlines, budget overruns, or operational disruption.
Mphasis delivered an end-to-end transformation under Project NEON, creating a secure, independent IT estate for Aptia across four countries. Using the CAST application intelligence platform, Mphasis first mapped complex application and data dependencies, then rebuilt 280 applications from source code in a greenfield AWS environment, re-engineered more than 150 integrations, and migrated over 2,500 databases and 45 million documents through carefully governed waves. The team also developed custom tools to securely cleanse and validate data at scale, consolidated three RPA platforms into Microsoft Copilot, and brought together specialist capabilities across AWS, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, and the Mphasis Javelina™ platform.
