Our client is UK’s largest water-only supplier providing clean water services to 3.6m customers in Southeast England.
As part of the critical national and life-giving infrastructure in the UK’s driest region, the client faced the challenge of effectively maintaining. Comprehensive and accurate data collection and analysis was key to improving their knowledge and understanding, make predictive forecasts and ensure adequate water supply for the future. The need was to ‘commoditize’ IT and reduce costs, standardize data integration, better understand complex assets to optimize water supplies and address customer needs, while complying to regulatory requirements.

SOLUTION

 

We made a strategic decision to move from traditional IT delivery to the cloud. AWS was selected as it provides the ability to provision infrastructure services without upfront high capital investment or high lead times – in addition to unbeatable services and cost models. We also standardized data integrations to remove swivel-chair manual integrations and legacy script-based file transfers. Talend was chosen to provide more batch-centric integration.
The solution is designed to collect data from multiple sources, including Internet-connected smart-meters, and loading it into a data warehouse structure for ease of management and analytics. It is flexible to add new data sources with ease, and will allow the client to analyze customer demands in real-time. Automated meter reading and smart metering will provide real-time insights to fix leaks faster and reduce customer bills.
